Ever wanted to know what something, or, somewhere looked like before you got that something, or, went to that destination? Virtual reality has been developed to a point today that you can. We can even look at real estate without actually driving all over town to attend open houses. The possibilities are endless, as described in the above video.
As suggested in the video; ‘It may not be Star Trek transporter technology, but it’s as close as it gets.’ There is no doubt in my mind that nothing can take the place of actually being ‘there’ in person, but it would sure be nice to know what you are getting into before you get into it. This type of technology would also allow those that would never be able to actually visit a destination or attraction to be taken on a virtual tour. I may never get to see the great pyramids of Egypt, but by using this technology, I could experience the experience of actually visiting them in a 3D 360 degree environment.
There are many uses including, as suggested on the video, movie directors scouting locations as well as checking out resorts and restaurants. I think back to all the times where the description did not quite meet the expectations, but with virtual reality, and this particular interfaced app with Cloud based technology, this would be minimized. To be able to check out attractions before making the investment in time and money, would be a great service to all. It would not be surprizing that there could still be those unexpected surprises, but the odds of that happening would be diminished.
As this technology advances and becomes even more refined and known, I can see the end of that glossy colour brochure being replaced by an iPhone or iPad, as well as VR goggles.
